Hello! Finally back in Baltimore after a long week in Manchester and Nashville, Tennessee. I attended Bonnaroo music festival for four days and it was exhausting but completely worth it. For those of you who aren’t familiar, Bonnaroo is just like a modern day Woodstock. You listen to music with strangers who become friends, you camp on top of other tents and you don’t shower. I wasn’t sure if I was just really tan or really dirty by the end. My highlight was seeing Paul McCartney, THE Paul McCartney. He performed Hey Jude and when I heard it I burst into tears. Something so heartbreaking about watching the last Beatle (come on, no one cares what Ringo is up to these days) sing his heart out all alone.
That brings me to now. I’m back in Baltimore for three days until I’m off again for another music festival, this time in Dover, DE called Firefly Music Festival. Same thing on a smaller scale. I’ll be reporting and photographing this one for The Baltimore Sun’s blog The Darkroom, so keep a look out next week! Headliners are Tom Petty, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and MGMT. All festival photos will be up around then on here as well. It’s my first huge assignment so I’m pretty excited. 🙂
In my in-betweens I had a shoot with Ashley today which come out pretty lovely! I used Fuji Superia 400 this time and the colors definitely popped a lot more than Kodak Portra’s subtle tones.
Feathered headband by Bedford Falls, another awesome handmade piece I picked up at Bonnaroo.
Love the pop of color in the Fuji Superia 400, really compliments your work and location choice.
I have never been one to like being in front of the camera, but your images almost make me want to book a shoot with you. Gorgeous images.
Thank you 😀
And please do sometime! Ashley is a model but when we first started working together she was no where near as experienced (though you couldn’t tell). I very rarely shoot with actual models and prefer to work with everyday people instead. There’s something about the uncertainty in front of a camera that tells a story and makes it beautiful. I find that working with models is oftentimes quite difficult in the way that not many know how to take direction and suggestion without viewing it as something negative. So yeah, if you ever feel like being on the other side of the lens don’t hesitate to contact me 😀
Love this set! The arch of the branch and her body position in the last image are stellar! Can’t wait to see your festival work 🙂
Thank you! That one is one of my favorites 🙂
I am so jealous you saw and heard PAUL MCCARTNEY in person….OMG….would have loved to been there! That aside….these are extraordinary photos! Absolutely love each and everyone! Ashley is a gorgeous model! Looking forward to the FIreFly Festival photos…..I know they will be awesome!
He is very very cool lol. He has so much presence and charisma. I never thought I would be able to but feel lucky I did. He is a living legend!
and thank you! 🙂
Wow. The headband is fab. The shots are beautiful
Thank you! I do love that headband 🙂
All of these are so beautiful! I do agree about the colors being really bright, especially her fantastic red hair! I also enjoy the scenes that were created, fantastic job!!
Thanks Michelle! I used a different film from before, it’s actually cheaper and more saturated. Gives it kind of a lomography effect almost. I like it a lot 🙂
Ashley always has awesome hair, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her without it being awesome 😀
