My Hectic Life: Baltimore Sun Interning, Class and Turning One

I've been really busy and haven't had much time to relax. But then I realize I have an adorable kitty coo that loves me...clearly.

Hi everyone! It’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted…shame on me. My internship has me extremely busy and I haven’t shot film since the post on colored filters. I feel terrible and I miss it so much. I’ll have to get my butt out there and shoot some film sometime this week. For now I just figured I’d update you guys on what’s been going on in my world of photography…didn’t want you to think I’d jumped ship or abandoned 120Pearls, no way.

First thing is first….

120Pearls has officially turned a year old as of August 28th!

So crazy. In this year I’ve done way more with this blog than I ever thought I would. I won a reader voted Mobbie award thanks to you guys, got hired to do a blog post for Clinton Kelly’s fashion show, shot well over 50 rolls of film, got over 15 new cameras and met a ton of amazing readers out on the streets of Baltimore. Talk about a great start to what I hope will continue to be an awesome blogging adventure.

The main thing that has kept me busy is my internship with the Baltimore Sun. I’m a photo staff intern 40 hours a week, Friday-Mon and they have sent me on all kinds of assignments, most of them if not all have been really interesting. I’ve photographed inmates to a seafood festival to the Grand Prix and to the crazy office of a casting director. My photo work has gotten the cover twice and I’m about to enter my third week of interning.

Here’s some tear sheets of the most recent papers with my stuff in them…hope you’ve seen my hard work!

My first newspaper cover. Boring story but hey, it's the cover!

There’s a lot more stuff online but these ones are the ones I am most proud of. It’s hard to get stuff in print, especially color, when everyone reads things online these days. In the next few weeks I’ll be photographing the Shindig festival and Virgin Mobile Freefest….so keep a lookout for those stories. Basically I couldn’t ask for a better place to be learning and perfecting my skill.

I shot a roll with my friend Ashley right before the madness started, if you follow my blog you are quite familiar and it’s a really good roll! Expect that to turn up within the next few days. I’ll be buying some film stock this weekend, so hopefully it will motivate me to get out there and shoot some film. Until then….read the Baltimore Sun. Hope everyone is doing well, I’d love to hear about your film woes and successes and you can share them via my FB page. I’ve been seeing a lot of great stuff out there.
