Ever since I got back from vacation it has been a constant go, go, go, go, go! The day after I returned from South Carolina I had to cover the Silopanna Festival in Annapolis. A fourteen hour day with 35+ pounds of photo gear on you can really tire a person out. I technically don’t have to shoot the whole time but when you want to get daytime acts and the headliner isn’t until 9pm it just doesn’t make sense to leave, so that’s that. My body was sore for about two days after which means I’m super out of shape. After that I went to the National Aquarium’s first ever “InstaMeet”, I photographed a lovely couple for the “Home” section of the paper and on the way home from that I stopped by to photograph a Baltimore based Ferguson protest.

Bottom line: I haven’t had time to shoot much film. But a photo is a photo, right? I figured I’d enclose a handful of snapshots from various assignments for those of you who don’t follow me on other social medias. Sorry I’ve been slacking so hard in the film category, I’ll be back at it soon, I promise.

Next up was the National Aquarium’s “Instameet”. They chose a handful of Instagrammers to come after hours to the Black Tip Reef Exhibit and photograph it for social media. It was really great, there was even cheese, wine and beer! Follow them on social media and maybe next time you’ll be able to participate as well! I know they plan on doing it again since this time was such a success. There’s something about being in the aquarium after hours that is oddly peaceful yet creepy at the same time. I interned there in high school for a whole summer and we got to have a sleepover there and it’s definitely a memory I won’t forget anytime soon. Just like this time.

The aquarium shoot was really hard to be honest. I shot with both my iPhone and 5D Mark 3 and the curved glass plus barely there lighting combined with fast moving fish was way more difficult than I assumed it would be. Definitely underestimated that one!

 

Lastly, there was a protest in front of City Hall in downtown Baltimore yesterday to challenge police brutality in light of the recent Ferguson protests – if you don’t know what I’m talking about crawl out from under the rock you’ve been living under and turn on the news. A good amount of people came out to support and I happened to drive by the protest on my way home from another assignment. While this wasn’t an official assignment for me, I couldn’t help but get in a few shots

I have a lot of thoughts on the media involvement in the Ferguson trend and I plan on sharing them in a blog post sometime soon. Until then I hope you enjoyed my iPhone shots (and a few dSLR ones) of my first week back home in Baltimore. Like I said, the film stuff will resurface soon! The Canon A-1 needs a battery – nothing like going to use it at the Aquarium and it being DEAD.
