Hi everyone! I hope fall has been treating you well. If you live near me it’s still quite warm outside, which I can’t complain about. I wanted to stop in – haha saying it like that makes me think of my blog as a little cafe or something – and write you guys an update on what’s been going on with me.
Graduate school doesn’t give you much homework but when it does it tends to come in the satan spawn form of lengthy papers. I am currently writing a twenty page legal paper on social media law, pr and intellectual property for my mass communication law class. It’s been pretty interesting but the page count is daunting. Another paper, for my expository theory class, is about the controversy on public breastfeeding; weird topic choice considering I have no interest in being a mother, but I find the hoopla surrounding the whole subject really interesting, especially when it makes a good point about American society. My other class, History of Style and Rhetoric, has been really based on discussion and I have no idea what I want my final paper to be on yet.
Work wise things have been going well. I just cemented a deal with a new client for corporate journalism – it pays the bills, ok? – and I have complete creative control over their design and content of their company newsletter. It’s kind of like regular journalism, the only difference is that it investigates stories inside the walls of a company instead of everywhere else. I’ll be writing their news as well as photographing things here and there. I start next month and I’m excited about it.
Lastly, this entire month of October I’ve been working on a story that is really important to me, I’ve overseen it from the first pitch to the last word of my latest draft to the last photo edited caption of the visuals. It will be published on November 7, next week, so I hope you all will take the time to read it. I’ll do a more lengthy post on it after it is published but for now you can visit here to find out more about what I’ll be talking about in the piece.
I’ll be giving a speech at the Baltimore Camera Club this Thursday! Everyone seems to be pretty excited there so I’ll just be talking about what I do for work as well as giving some helpful tips and tricks I’ve picked up along the way in reference to what to keep in a camera bag, what editing programs work the best, and how to create open dialogue between subject and photographer. If you’re in the club see you there!
For now I’ll leave you with two links to photo stories I did this past weekend – enjoy! Once I’m out of the weeds I’ll be posting film stuff and personal photo stuff yet again 🙂
