Georgia Wanderings

Processed with VSCO with m3 preset

This past week I explored Tybee Island, GA and Savannah, GA with my family. The thing about Georgia is that I always forget how hot it is down here. I got a lobster-esque sunburn the first day out on the beach. I didn’t take many actual beach photos – it looks the same as any other beach, but I did find a sweet collection of seashells. The unicorn horn ones are the best because of how tiny and intricate they are.

We stayed in this very large house that was about a mile away from the shoreline and a rooftop deck that you could see the lighthouse from. According to the lighthouse’s official website, it was “…ordered by General James Oglethorpe, Governor of the 13th colony, in 1732, the Tybee Island Light Station has been guiding mariners safe entrance into the Savannah River for over 270 years. The Tybee Island Light Station is one of America’s most intact having all of its historic support buildings on its five-acre site. Rebuilt several times the current light station displays its 1916 day mark with 178 stairs. You can read more here.

Tybee Island is home to some really cool off the grid thrift shops, locally owned business and art galleries. Here’s some snaps of one I explored that kind of reminded me of Papermoon restaurant in Baltimore.

Savannah was a really quirky city. It kind of reminded me of the architecture of New Orleans a bit. I wish I could spent more time here! I leave tomorrow to head to Saint Augustine, FL so I won’t be accompanying the rest of my family on the latter part of the Georgia trip. I took a handful of snapshots of quirky things about Savannah that stuck out to me. My Aunt Nora got a tattoo at Anonymous Tattoos to commemorate the trip – it’s a sea turtle on her arm.
