Third Annual Floatilla

Today was the third annual Baltimore Floatilla event, orchestrated by the Healthy Harbor Initiative. What is a floatilla? A floatilla is exactly what it sounds like – a bunch of people floating. Baltimore residents and friends kayak five miles to the Inner Harbor and gather around Mr. Trash Wheel while promoting a clean bill of health for our waterways. Experienced paddlers come out to raise money for the harbor’s restoration to turn it into a swimmable and fun experience by 2020.

The brightly colored kayaks, water and excited faces make for a really fun visual event. I’ve photographed this event every year and with each year it’s gotten better. If you haven’t gotten the chance to check it out, make sure you put it on next summer’s bucket list.
