It’s a bit late but it’s still Friday for another hour and fifteen minutes which means that I can still present you with a Film Photog Friday. Wooo! It’s been awhile since anyone has been featured so I was really excited to receive an email from Amanda Bausk. I loved her film work, especially the shots of the cars and long exposures.

Composition also caught my eye and it’s quite obvious that Amanda has been formally trained in photography. It’s always nice to receive submissions from both formally and informally educated people. Always a contrast but never boring.

Who/what got you started on shooting with film?
I graduated a photography school that was all digital based. I was just getting kind of bored with digital and I found my shots to be really lacking and I wanted to try something new. I have a few favorite film photographers on flickr but my all time favorite is Patrick Joust, who I reached out to and asked him all sorts of questions about film and how to get started. He was extremely patient with me and gave me a rundown of everything I needed to know to get started. I ended up buying a Yashica Mat TLR, an Epson v500 scanner and some Kodak Portra 400NC and I was hooked from there. I’ve gone through many cameras since then but  the three cameras I have now are a Pentax 6×7, Hasselblad 500c, and a Yashica Mat 124-G.

How long have you been shooting film?

 I’ve been shooting film since September 2010

What’s your favorite subject to photograph?

 I’d have to say my favorite thing to photograph is night/long exposure photography. I’ve always been a night owl so it makes sense. I also love photographing portraits, cars, and landscapes as well.

What photo are you most proud of?

 Oh man that’s a tough one! I’d have to say I’m most proud of the night shot I took of the ice cream stand in Florida. It was one of my first night shots I took with my Pentax 6×7 so it mean a lot to me.

What do you think of the “film is dead” attitude?
I don’t really think it’s true. There is such a huge following for companies like Lomography and Impossible Project, plus there are still some heavy hitters in professional photography who still shoot on film themselves which hopefully inspires others to give film a try. I think film will be around for years to come.
