It finally reached above 50 degrees today! It’s been so cold here that the thought of going outside to do anything, much less go shooting, just didn’t compute in my brain. Since it was so mild out today I took the opportunity to photograph my friend and favorite model Ashley. If you’ve been following my blog for awhile you’ll know that her and I have created some amazing images in the past using a mix of film and digital.
My weapon of choice with my Canon A-1 with a 50mm lens and a few colored filters that I layered on top of one another. I used Kodak Portra 400. Since the portra film is so desaturated, which I like, I decided to try the filters out on top and see what happened. Previously when using filters I have used Fuji Superia film because of it’s saturation of color and when the colored filter is added it makes for a SUPER colorful photo. Here, the results were a more muted rainbow which I love love love.
It’s been awhile but the set came out amazing, as always. I love shooting in nature because there is so much to work with and so many little details. Filters are so fun because they add a pop of color to an otherwise neutral palette. If you haven’t read my last post on color filters please take a second to do so! There you’ll find where I purchased them and how to use them effectively.
As always, here is a handful of a few digital renditions.
Thanks for taking the time to view my work. If you’re interested more on the background of this particular story, please visit my style blog, Better Than Narnia to read an interview with and see more photos of Ashley.

Great photos I love how you used the filters to create these amazing photographs! Nature in the background is always my favorite!
Thank you! I love nature, much more fun than a studio in my opinion.
Absolutely beautiful. Loved the colors. Loved the venue. Amazing photos.
